This is for all my coding comrades out there looking for ways to stay informed and up to speed. I was recently introduced to a web site called www.bookofzeus.com, which features articles full of updates and tips on all there is to know about CSS/XHTML, Java/jQuery, PHP and more. The best part is you can contribute your own endless wisdom on any and all of these topics through the contribute section. I know it’s tough to admit when you don’t know everything, but book of zeus will help you come to terms with it. If you don’t know it, ask Zeus. And if you know more, then tell him what’s up. I will be doing my own ‘telling’ once I am finished packing (blah). So don’t forget to check it out and happy hunting!

Inspiration #3: Photography

We all know the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and the statement rings true. However, a picture can also be worth a thousand moments of silence. I like those types of pictures. A moment in time captured so elegantly and perfectly that there are literally no words to explain it. The words are written in the picture. That is what inspires me. I want my artwork and my design to do that to people. Not in a selfish, self-gratifying way. I more or less want to use the inspiration I get from amazing photographic shots as fuel to inspiring someone else in the same way. Hopefully, by being motivated to do something great, it will also inspire people to be better, as a whole.

Of course, I have some examples of my favorite shots. What are some of yours?

Nerds-R-Us

Sooo, I sustained my first nerd injury today and wanted to give some FYI to all my fellow nerds out there on how to avoid neck and back pain, and even heart disease.

Nerd Injury (nurd-in-juh-ree):
- harm or damage that is done or sustained during computer work, video games, role-playing battles in the park, or any other event that might encourage “embarrassed-for-you” looks.

Seriously though, I have the misfortune of working a desk job, which are known to cause back issues, horrible posture and loss of personality. A number of doctors and physicians have given recommendations on how to maintain your nerdy status without sustaining any injuries. I have listed a few of those tips to be considered..

1) Keep your head up.

Focus on aligning your head and neck right above your shoulders; avoid straining forward.

2) Move your mouse close

Ideally, it should be placed right next to your keyboard so you don’t overreach or twist your shoulder, arm, or wrist when clicking.

3) Be choosy with your chair

Pick one that allows your lower back to rest against a lumbar support. Then tilt the back of the chair so it’s very slightly reclined.

4) Sit within reach

Your torso should be about an arm’s length away from the monitor, which should be 2 to 3 inches above eye level.

5) Take breaks

Getting up at least once an hour—to go to the bathroom or just do some shoulder rolls—reduces pressure on spinal disks and boosts circulation. Payoff: you’ll be more limber and less stressed.

(Credit goes to CNN Health.)

I know there are hundreds more tips out there, so get to googling and save yourself some unneeded trips to the chiropractor.

Inspiration #2: Nature

Inspiration itself is amazing in the fact that it naturally and sometimes unexpectedly shows its face for anyone and everyone to see. Everyone has their own forms and interpretations of inspiration, and most are unique to that person’s outlook, experiences, and where they are in their life. I think that’s why nature is so inspiring to me. All the beautiful, mind-blowing and life-changing landscapes of this world are created without any human intervention. It’s all natural and that is truly inspirational. It’s amazing how a trip to the mountains can change a person. Or a lucky stumble upon a hidden oasis. You never know what mother nature has in store for you, but you can be sure it will change your life.

Mr Incredible

I finally updated myself with the rest of the world and purchased a smart phone!

The HTC Incredible 2, to be exact.

I must say, I think I am on the Android team. I love this phone. My favorite part, by far, are all the free apps in the market! lol

The options are endless, and sometimes pointless, but I am just about addicted to tapping that “FREE” button.  I’m not only concerned with games, though. I would rather bog down my phone with a few practical apps, too.

Any ideas on what I should download?

Inspiration #1

I haven’t had much “inspiration” to write on here lately, so I am just going to write about the things that do inspire me, and go from there!

Inspiration #1: COLOR!

I have this odd obsession with bright, bold colors. I will never forget the day I discovered the set of rainbow sharpies with the extra colors.

Result: Instantly in love, which set off a warp speed version of my imagination picturing every little thing I could outline, color in, bring to life and infect with the brilliant inks. Even if I drew like a 3 yrd old (Still kinda do.), I wanted them.

The same exact s l o w – m o t i o n, warp speed, insta-zombie effect happens when I see any article of clothing, book, notebook, poster, pens, and even gift bags with bright, colorful patterns. I sound insane now, but I know someone else out there feels my insanity!

Anyway, I typically take the color insanity and create a half-way sane project, which usually turns out exactly how I imagined it. All because I was obsessed, inspired and then focused. Maybe obsession isn’t the best thing to promote, but inspiration and focus definitely are.

What’s the #1 thing that inspires you?

I just wanted to add a quick update on some new projects I have been working on. Madame Bridal has been busy these past couple of weeks, and I have just finished a landing page design for their prom season. (Below)

Check it out and let me know what you think. I also just finished a few more banners for their affiliate site, Shareasale.com. Again, leave me a comment with some feedback and criticism.

I came across a design contest today for Invitation Designs. Invitation Consultants.com are the ones conducting the contest, and they are accepting submissions now. I am not sure if there is a specific theme/idea they want designers to run with, but it seems to be open game. I am already brainstorming ideas, and can’t wait to see who wins!

If you want to participate in the contest just go to the contest page and create an account. Leave me a reply with your design, and I will be sure to post mine when I’m finished.

Here are some winners in the past:

baby shower, birthday invite, contest, design, invitation, print design, submit, wedding invite
Weimaraner puppies

Today, me and my sister volunteered at the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Wellington, FL, where they have over 100 dogs up for adoption. Due to the name, I’m sure you can guess that most of the dogs are of larger breeds. There are still some smaller guys running around, but majority are medium-large size dogs. We met some very interesting characters today, but they were all so sweet and happy! It is definitely a lot of work to take care of the dogs and the ranch, but even the staff have to agree that the company they keep is all the reward they need. Well, kind of. If you live in the West Palm Beach area, they could also use a hand. The staff would like to welcome volunteers to come give a hand/paw from 7am-9am and/or 6pm-8pm. Me and my sister went for the later time, because I chose to work an hour away from my house. /facepalm. Anyway, we had a blast, and the dogs were all so adorable.

If you are looking for a puppy to start your family with, then this is the place to be! We met 4 different litters of puppies tonight! Weimaraners, great dane and hound mix puppies up for adoption. You gotta see them. They are so cute!

On that note, I will leave you with some now familiar and smiling faces.
